The beginning of a new year means new resolutions, new ideas, and new trends. Whether you’re a follower of what’s current, or lead with your own style, it’s hard not to fall in love with the latest trends - taking shape in the world of interiors. Here's how you can incorporate some of these styles to refresh your home.
We all love a good velvet piece, and in 2020 it’s here to stay. Up the colour-anti with a sofa or armchair in bold rich hues and moody accents, to make a luxurious statement and add a touch of much-needed texture to any room.
Recently, we’ve seen a movement towards coloured velvet sofas and we are on board with this trend. A navy blue velvet sofa paired with metallic accents will give your room a luxurious moody feel. Or be bold and opt for a sofa that will stand out in any space. Velvet orange will add a retro-inspired feel to your space, whilst velvet green will inject regal elegance and class.
Classic Blue has been announced as Pantone’s colour of the year, described as being dependable and peaceful. This cobalt blue shade is predicted to appear throughout this year’s homes due to its calming, tranquil, and effortlessly stylish nature.
How can you inject this sought after colour into your space? Think velvet upholstered bed frames and sofas. Adding blue hues in your bedroom or living space will make a bold statement. Pair these deeper blue tones with neutral bedding and soft textures to lessen the impact.
Decorating and designing a home can be a daunting task especially with the ever-changing landscape of the Interior design world. Trends are constantly evolving and it can be difficult to stay in the loop of what’s in and what’s out. Even if you don’t follow these ‘in’ trends to a tee, incorporate those that suit your style because in the end if you love it, you can’t go wrong!
Natural + Neutral
Already we've seen a growing movement towards natural materials and organic elements in the home. More homeowners will opt for timber pieces and earthy tones, to pay homage to the beautiful and natural environment we live in. You may remember when we wrote a focus piece on our Mangrove collection last year. Well, these beautifully hand-crafted rattan and wicker pieces are still growing in popularity. Combining modern and traditional design, they infuse a warm and natural ambience into your space. This connection to the natural world will be continued throughout the home in the form of earthy colour palettes consisting of terracotta tones, deep olive greens and warm brown hues.

The Urbane Property Stylist director Emma Tobin has seen an increasing use of natural materials over the last 12 months.
“I’ve added a lot of rattan furniture to my property styling collection recently. It’s on trend, but I’ve also seen more natural timber in the fixtures of new builds. I use rattan pieces to complement these” she says.
Whilst, rattan has been in and out of trend in the past, it can maintain a constant presence in the home. “Use it in moderation. Incorporating one or two rattan furnishings will remain stylish long after it’s no longer on trend.”
