It’s a classic Aussie Christmas Day. The sun’s out. We’re enjoying the summer breeze, a swim in the pool and a classic roast or BBQ lunch. Oh and don’t forget the Pavlova! We don’t have that White Christmas you see in the movies. Instead we do it the best way we know how, with family around the lunch table enjoying the warm weather and decorating the house with a festive spirit.

It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed this time of year with the inundation of Christmas decorations and decor in every store. Choosing a theme, colour scheme and decorations on top of the gift buying, wrapping and preparation? It’s an extensive list. So, how can you style your home to make it the perfect setting for the Festive Season without all the hassle? We’ll show you how.

Conquering Red and Green

Nothing makes a home feel more ready for the festive season than the classic colour combination; red and green. But how do you tackle these colours in a contemporary way without sacrificing festivity? Visit your local florist and purchase some plants or greenery suited to the Festive season. We'd suggest investing in some red bottle brush flowers which can add subtle colour to your styling and enhance your decor in a fresh and natural way.

To really elevate your decor this festive season, accent your flowers and red elements with forest green pieces. Velvet chairs add textural contrast whilst the dark green hues introduce the festive colour combination in a subtle way. Alternatively, you could simply invest in green decor pieces suited to the theme. Think green cushions, throw blankets or vases.

Festive Furniture

Having natural wood tones in your home is perfect when decorating for the festive season. A large wooden dining table is the ideal setting for Christmas lunch, with ample space for the whole family to sit around and enjoy a Christmas feast. Our Orlando Dining Table is a versatile piece that will not only inject natural aesthetics into your home this festive season but all year round!

Further your home’s wooden aesthetic with a sideboard or buffet that shares a similar organic tone but has a slight textural difference. Pictured is our Rayan Reclaimed Pine Side Cabinet. A sideboard or buffet unit is not only an ideal space for festive decorating but also it provides your home with a great storage solution ( because there’s no such thing as too much storage! )

Keeping your decor refreshingly minimal is often more effective than over-styling your space. So combine your homes everyday decor with a vase full of colourful flowers or opt for fresh gum leaves. For a more festive touch keep it simple and lay twinkle lights on the surface of your table or buffet unit. Baubles aren’t just for your tree! Scatter two or three of your favourite colours amongst the fairy lights to really lift the festive spirit.

Bring in the Blue

If you’re not feeling the heritage Christmas colours, change it up and accent your festive decor with blue hues. Ocean and sky blues keep it light and breezy, perfect for this time of year. Add some decorative patterned pillows to your sofa or couch that will translate beautifully into and out of the festive season. If your walls are looking bare, invest in a gorgeous wall print for a finishing touch.

It’s not Christmas without a tree. If you really want to make this season unique, tracking down a wooden Christmas tree will really complete the look. But don’t ignore that beautiful green tree you may already have at home! Keep with the theme and decorate with electric blue and silver baubles, for a luxurious contemporary aesthetic.
